I would like to thank Rachel Freund for making the trip up to Warren to speak at our local CSP meeting held at Friendship House Drop-in Center. It was great to have her there, to speak on why Consumers need to strongly consider voting, in addition to promoting HB2253. Rachel was in Harrisburgh on April 1, 2008 attending a rally on the Rotunda of the state capital along with approximately 400 other folks in support of hb2253, which if passed into law will increase the personal needs allowance for folks on SSI in personal care homes from $60 per month to $120 per month and will also include legislation that will increase that amount everytime there is a cost of living increase in SSI. This issue reaches beyond just mental health Consumers, and touches the lives of elderly, as well as physically ill or disabled folks who might be on SSI an living in personal care homes. On behalf of folk I know personally and many I may never know, I would like to encourage you to get in contact with your state representatives and let them know you want them to support this bill. I know Rachel would be grateful for any support of this bill you may offer as well, since she has taken it on as a personal challenge to try and raise support for it.
Once again, I would like to thank Rachel Freund for making the trip to Warren to speak at Friendship House Drop-in Center, especially since she was in Harrisburgh yesterday, and then literally made a diagonal trip across the state to speak in Warren. I don’t know that I could have done that amount of traveling in 2 days, so hats off to Rachel for her many efforts both in the forefront and those that may be more behind the scenes!
