“Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare closing down Allentown State Hospital”

Finally something from a news source closer to Allentown State Hospital so much of what I’m see is pretty much repeats of the news release I posted yesterday from the DPW. This article gives a sense of what the local area around the hospital are thinking or I guess you could say what their initial response is to the news.

I’m just including the beginning of articles, because I’ve seen many complaints from news sources about bloggers using their material without crediting the source. While I have always included links to the place I found the information, I feel that this takes that integrity a bit further by giving you an intor and then pointing you to the source of the full article.

In light of that, I will say that this article is in the January 29, 2010 edition of the Bethlehem Area News and can be found at this address …. http://www.lehighvalleylive.com/bethlehem/index.ssf?/base/news-2/1264741516298070.xml&coll=3

ALLENTOWN | Despite deep concerns over the loss of nearly 400 local jobs and the treatment of 175 mentally ill patients, local and state officials are hopeful the closing of the Allentown State Hospital will open new opportunities.

Pennsylvania Acting Secretary of Public Welfare Harriet Dichter announced the shuttering of the nearly 100-year-old institution on Thursday.

// ]]>The announcement confirms months of rumors about the fate of the hospital that sparked employee rallies and a public outcry from some local lawmakers.”
