This February 24, 2014 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article talks about a recent report on the use of solitary confinement for mentally ill prisoners in Pennsylvania.  The rate of mentally ill prisoners being sent to solitary is higher than the rate of non-mentally ill prisoners being sent to solitary there is also evidence of an increased rate of suicide attempts among prisoners in solitary confinement.
