This June 10, 2016 article talks about a gathering in Harrisburg, PA to be held on June 13, 2016 on the Capital Rotunda where State Representative Thomas Murt (R-Montgomery County) will be joined by providers, family members and mental health Consumers to advocate for a bill being introduced to better enforce the federal Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 here in Pennsylvania.
This July 19, 2015 article on theTimes-Tribune.com website talks about some of the details found in a bill that was recently passed requiring training for certain judges and law enforcement officers to turn the tide and prevent incarceration from being the go-to solution to mental health issues.
This July 11, 2015 The Sentinel article talks about a bill with vague training requirements for police officers to receive training in how to identify people who have a mental illness, intellectual disability, or Autism but really doesn’t go into specifics about the depth or extent of the training required just that police offers are now required to have this training. It is hoped that officers will be trained to work with mental health professionals as part of this training and their work in the field.
