This May 5, 2015 article from The Times Herald talks about a theater production that is hoping to raise awareness about homelessness and remind us that people who are homeless each have a story to tell and that regardless of how they got to where they are, they are still people with the same needs as anyone else.

This undated audio segment found on the WHYY – Voices In The Family, talks about the issues surrounding the treatment of people with mental illnesses describing how state hospitals have been run in the past, the closure of many of them, and the result of poor funding of community based services which has resulted in an influx of people with mental illnesses ending up in jails and prisons where they are often heavily medicated or placed in solitary confinement for long periods of time.   There is a link within the description of the segment pointing to an article on the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) “Improving Long-term Psychiatric Care Bring Back the Asylum” is a freely accessible publication and is the article that the interview in this segment is based on.

This December 21, 2014 article found on The Sentinel (Cumberlink.com) talks about homelessness and how it is defined by agencies who try to help those who are homeless.  Not every person who meets the definition for homelessness is living under a bridge according to the article.

This November 13, 2014 article on the Revolution-News.com website talks about a project in progress in Madison, Wisconsin  to help people who are homeless have a safe, clean, and warm place to sleep.

Not Pennsylvania or mental health specific, but considering that a high number of the homeless population has some form of mental illness, I felt like this was worth posting, because it might give others ideas on how they can help those who are homeless also.
