This March 24, 2015 article found on the Philly.com website talks about the idea that providing safe affordable housing with appropriate supportive services could reduce homelessness and incarceration rates among those with mental health issues who have found themselves either incarcerated or homeless .. or both.

This August 25, 2014 article on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette website talks about a program that is nearing the point of being implemented that County Officials hope will allow people with mental illnesses or intellectual disabilities to afford stable housing that would allow them to live independently as opposed to living in a more expensive group home setting.

This July 23, 2014 Next City article talks about how something as basic as safe affordable housing can mean the difference between success and failure for a person who has been released from jail or prison. The article points out that someone released from prison who ends up on the streets is in an all out survival mode that makes it difficult for them to even think about continuing things like mental health treatment, or finding a job, because the people are so focused on things like trying to figure out where their next meal will come from.

This July 11, 2014  WESA NPR segment talks about proposed legislation in the state Senate for helping to increase the affordable housing available in Pennsylvania.  The bill includes help for people who are elderly, disabled, or otherwise lo-income who may have a tough time finding and keeping housing they can afford.

“State Grant Will Help Lansdale Project”

This undated article on the WNPV website was found on May 5, 2014 and talks about a state grant to help with the Lansdale Project in Montgomery County.  The project when completed with will provide housing for senior citizens who have a behavioral health diagnosis.
