This May 2, 2015 State College article talks about their community event called “First Friday” that was held recently to try to use art and music to bring the community together and offer opportunities for the awareness of the need to discuss mental health issues and not trying to sweep them under the rug to be brought to the forefront.  There was a tour, of 40 businesses as well as a presentation at the end of the tour.

This April 29, 2015 State College article not only reminds us to stop and take a deep breath once in a while, but also talks about various projects for raising awareness about mental health issues and the stigma that often faced by the people who struggle with them.

I’m not sure about the publication date, but in the URL there is what could be a date of June 24, 12014 in it, but I’m not sure if that was the publication date or the date the file was saved into their system.  I am sure though that this USA Today segment is lengthy, but has a LOT Of information packed into that anyone who has even an ounce of compassion or a hint of a willingness to learn about the realities of mental health care in America should really consider reading.   It is well worth the time it takes to read it.

This June 18, 2014 Article from The Inquirer on the Philly.com website talks about the criminalization of mental illness and points out that people with diabetes or hypertension aren’t locked up because of their medical condition and asks why people with mental illnesses are locked up in prisons because of their medical condition when they need medical care.
