This September 12, 2014, Newsworks article, talks about signage being put n place in Montgomery county to help prevent suicides.  The signs encourage people in need of help to call the National Suicide prevention hotline.  While the article does say that there is no way to quantify the effectiveness of the signs, they do know that other places who have posted similar signs have seen a decrease in the number of suicides on bridges, so while no exact number is available, it is felt that offering information to the public does help with preventing suicides.

This May 4, 2014 article on The Sentinel Cumberlink.com website talks about the efforts of one woman to help reduce the stigma of mental illness while trying to also reduce the number of suicides among teens. Her non-profit organization is called “Please Live” and has a website at http://pleaselive.org

This February 19, 2013 article on the ReadingEagle.com website talks about concern over the increased number of suicides seen in Berks County this year, which according to  the article is about double what it was for all last year.

This January 19, 2013 article on thedailyreview.com talks about a program for helping people have a better idea what to do if someone they know is suicidal it teaches basic skills in how to get someone to the help they need.  The article compares QPR to the well-known CPR in that it is a first step, and not meant to be a comprehensive approach.

This article dated February 27, 2012, on the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review website talks about the struggles faced by family members of someone who committed suicide.  The article not only looks at immediate impact, but also compares national suicide rates to the suicide rates in Allegheny County.
