This March 9, 2015 NPR Shots article talks about the how 51% of suicides in rural area involve guns. The article doesn’t suggest taking guns away, but suggests that people who own them take time to secure their guns in a safe way that will limit access to them by people who could be at risk. It was felt that safely securing firearms and limiting access to them could reduce suicide rates in rural areas by between 30% and 50% of the current rural suicide rate.
