This July 3, 2014 WSEE News article from Erie, PA talks about something many of us may not even think of.  Fireworks can be something that can trigger PTSD symptoms in Veterans, not just the sound of them, but the smell can be an issue also so many Veterans with PTSD

tend to avoid fireworks displays and will try to avoid the 4th of July in general because of these reminders of their combat experiences.

This June 9, 2014 LehighValleyLive.com article talks about issues that have been discovered during an audit of the Pennsylvania VA clinics with regards to mental health care.   I got the impression that while some are really bad, others do a better job, so this doesn’t say that every VA is going to have issues when it comes to mental health care, it just means there are some that need lots of improvement and others not so much.

This July 26, 2013 article found on the Medical Daily website talks about programs offered by the Sierra Club to help Veterans with PTSD.  The programs include group activities such as camping, kayaking, hiking, and fishing, and the idea of the programs is to help Veterans reconnect with the good things that nature has to offer to enable them to in a sense swap negative outdoor memories for positive ones.  The focus is on the activity not the problems.
